Ivar Hill Thanks :) The thing is some of my suggestions can tend to make the game more complex at least from a development standpoint, but I believe that interactivity is key IMHO.
Also I think the weapons being used as tools is also a good way for people either being brute or more stealthy having a use for those for either more indirect kills to some degree, probably neutralizations and other ways to solve problems, also use ways to lure the AI to some area.
I believe the idea of utility weapons is a great thing for an emergeant gameplay game. It can be for example an ammo type or also a weapon function which can be either selectable as a fire mode or being a default propriety of the weapon. I mean an explosive grenade can destroy some doors, walls or other pieces of level design by default. An incendiary grenade can burn some vegetation and generate some chaos and have a sort of temporary wall of defense.
An Ice weapon if it exists can create islands on water areas, making the player not being forced to swimm or even avoid hazards of poisonous liquids, Temporarily disable people (even if I know freezing people will kill them)
I do think a stinger grenade can be nice to knock people, and even a flashbang
I also think also of the opposite, tools being weapons, a fire extinguisher can extinguish fire, but also disable people and can be used as an improvised melee weapon.
A flare can be used to set up fire and distract enemies as well as generating lighting.
Also I don't know which things this game would like to get realistic / semi realistic, and other stuff as more fictionnal with more or less believable science. Because and I'm honest here I don't care if the game aims for realism or not, I mean I'm perfectly fine with a more doomesque / unrealesque approach to the game as well as a more "realistic" gameplay like SWAT or ARMA.
I think I will expect something in between regarding the trailer showing the three main solutions to situation solving.
The rest is up to you making the game design choices.
The only thing I'm saying here is that for weapons and even utilities as I haven't made anything regarding player "powers" or as in Deus Ex, Augmentations.
Is that Tools as weapons and Weapons as tools can be made functionnal in many ways, like different fire modes, or even multiple ammo types, or even combining the concepts, if we want to have some limited use of those types. I mean possibilities exists and some directions regarding that can be great depending of what we want in terms of combat.
I don't want to mention every game with concepts here as I mentioned enough games already.
But functionnality is a great thing to have and I kind of like the idea of maximizing functions to some extent.
Like a knife being thrown so it's not only a melee weapon, but also we can apply some poison to increase their lethality.
I think this post is a bit all over the place but I believe I have a whole lot of ideas for this kind of games, things I would I have loved either to see in an Immersive sim or things that exists in some games but never be combined with other possibilities.
