Has anyone played Brigand: Oaxaca? It really is a game that flew under a lot of people’s radar, it feels a combine of Deus Ex ( tbh or maybe SS2) and STALKER, and a lot of other rpgs. The graphics looks incredibly ugly, and gameplay is clunky and difficult as hell, but it actually gives player a huge amount of freedom to progress the story despite the main story is sort of linear. It has the aiming system in Deus Ex 1, means you gotta stay still to aim well and invest skill points into weapons in order to perform better, it also has a reputation system like STALKER, so you can double-cross the faction you are friendly with through certain actions. Even though a lot of people called it an imsim, it still has different aspects compared to general imsim games, like in brigand if you wanna play stealth you gotta invest more point into it otherwise enemies gonna see you in a mile away, and also perform certain skills gotta cost Meta, which is kind of like a mana pool system in the game. It also can’t do a lot of things that in an imsim game that a lot of people thinks you can do in this genre, like stacking boxes to jump over a wall or anything like that, so it honestly more feels like a CRPG imo. It recently shows up as #1 hidden gems on the newest rpg codex list. The most crazy thing to me is that this game was developed by ONE MAN, that guys is called Brian Lancaster, and he is really active in his game’s community, you can like email him questions about the game or send him your save because the game is too hard or something, he can always back to you in a short amount of time. This kind of love and dedication is wholesome, I really hope this game can get more recognition.
